“You’re inherently bad because some ancient lady ate an apple she wasn’t supposed to, so now you might be tortured eternally if you don’t block out your natural human desires.” I’m sorry, but I’m not responsible for something someone did thousands of years ago. That’s like saying Hitler killed thousands of Jews, so the Germans are all born evil.
But if you really think about it, the church tells you that everyone has Sin, like it’s some sort of disease. But what exactly is the sin? It’s not a pathogen that lives in your bloodstream (although if you think about it, could it be considered an STI?), it’s not a result of malformed chromosomes, it’s not something that we can find, really. It’s an invisible disease that we’re told that everyone has.
But, for a disease, it’s actually not so bad. I mean, it doesn’t really have any symptoms. And if the only disease I’m going to catch from having premarital sex is sin, I think I can live with that.
I get that some people actually think it’s a real thing, but the amount of songs that use lines such as “you’re/i’m so full of sin,” really gets annoying.
Just for future reference, this is the only “Sin” that I care about:
We atheists possess “salvation” not because we are released from a sentence, but because we don’t deserve the punishment in the first place. We have committed no “sin.”
Sin is a religious concept, and in some religions, salvation is the deliverance from the “wages of sin”—death, or eternal punishment. Sin has been defined as “missing the mark” of God’s expectations or holiness, or “offending God,” so it follows that since there is no god, there is no sin, therefore no need for salvation. Only those who consider themselves “sinners” need this kind of “salvation.” It is a religious solution to a religious problem.
We atheists might ask: how much respect should we have for a doctor who cuts you with a knife in order to sell you a bandage?
If salvation is the cure, then atheism is the prevention.
This reminds me a lot of the Emo Phillips quote, “When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realized that the Lord doesn’t work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me.”
You seem to think that God created homosexuals with homosexual desires. This is not true, God created homosexuals as heterosexuals, because of original sin, heterosexuals sometimes develop a desire for homosexuality. Another note, God does not hate homosexuals. He loves them, He sent His Son to die for them, and take their sin and give them eternal life if they would believe.
If someone tells you that God hates you because you have homosexual desires, he has done more evil than you, for he has denied you the truth. God hates no man. He sent His Son to die for ALL.
So homosexuality is just a product of sin, right?
